Tennis against cardiovascular risk

Visitor playing the tennis game with the sensor racket at the Menarini congress stand

The project

For the stand at the national cardiology congress, we turned a scientific message into a tennis match.

Visitors enter their nickname on the tablet, or play under the name of a champion, and grip a real racket: inside it are sensors that wirelessly transmit orientation and acceleration. Objects of different shapes and colours come from the screen, one for each risk factor: LDL cholesterol, hyperuricaemia, hypertension. They must all be hit, except those to let pass, such as HDL cholesterol.

During the game, key messages and questions appear, to be answered on the tablet beside the station. Points and correct answers feed the daily leaderboard, which scrolls across the screen between matches.

The game is developed in Unreal Engine. We built the racket with its electronics, provided the computer and network, and looked after the stand for all three days of the congress.
